You will no longer be able to play Steam games in new Tesla cars

If you have enjoyed playing games via Steam on your Tesla Model X or Model S, you might be the last of the bunch to ever do that in the future.

Sadly, the newer Model X and Model S cars will not include these gaming features.

Tesla warned buyers of these vehicles that their newest purchase won’t include gaming features.

We all know how much the automaker worked on curating its in-car entertainment system to be fit for gaming.

You might remember that a few years ago, Musk was seen appreciating a Tesla running the Cyberpunk 2077 video game.

It even became a huge selling point for these cars in 2022, which boasted powerful hardware included in these cars.

In light of the same love for gaming, the automaker announced the ability to play games available on Steam back in 2022.

For context, Steam is an online gaming platform housing thousands of multi-genre games.

And you could play most of them on a Model S or Model X.

Well, this would mean you can’t play GTA 6 in your car when it comes out.

Not that the hardware can support it anyway.

Well, Musk isn’t a fan of the GTA games, so that wouldn’t matter.

A Reddit user who goes by FlipKB24 posted about the automaker removing Steam support in newer cars.

When you check the delivery status for a Model S or Model X, a warning appears in the Tesla app.

It reads, “Tesla is updating the gaming computer in your Model X and your vehicle is no longer capable of playing Steam games. All other entertainment and app functionalities are unaffected.”

As of now, we don’t know if current Tesla models that support gaming features via Steam will also lose that ability.

This might be an indication of Tesla bringing in its own app store or gaming platform.

It’s because the hardware already supports the feature to play games.

Only a fraction of all Model S and Model X owners might actually be gaming on their cars, but it’s a cool feature to have nonetheless.
