Tesla vehicles in the Plaid spec are extremely fast, especially off the line.
Everyone knows that but it’s one thing to know it, it’s a totally different thing when you actually get to see it in action.
This video is a great case in point.
In the clip uploaded to X by DragTimes, you can see how the Tesla Model S Plaid goes from standstill to 60 mph in well under 2 seconds.
It gets to 60 mph in 1.87 seconds, from 60 mph to 130 mph in 3.08 seconds, and then it covers the quarter-mile dragstrip in 8.65 seconds, which is pretty impressive.
When it comes to acceleration times, Tesla can rival the likes of the Dodge Demon or even the McMurtry, which is technically the fastest-accelerating car in the world.
Obviously, the way different cars achieve these incredible figures is totally different.
Electric cars are more brisk under heavy acceleration because there are fewer parts that are moving.
As for Tesla, other than the Tesla Model S Plaid, we also have the Model X Plaid, which does 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, and the Cybertruck Cyberbeast, which also takes just over 2.5 seconds to get to 60 mph from a standstill.
The thing is, achieving outstanding acceleration times with an electric car is easy.
With a gas-powered car, all kinds of mechanical components have to get in motion but, with an electric car, it’s like flicking a switch.
However, what you get in terms of acceleration, you (sort of) lose in terms of top speed.
With the technology of today, electric cars tend to have a lower top speed than equivalent gas cars.
That’s not always the case, though.
The Rimac Nevera, for example, can exceed 400 km/h.
Imagine that.
