The iconic car from a certain movie franchise, the DeLorean DMC-12, can now transform into an all-electric EV, thanks to an accessory from Electrogenic — and it’s super fast.
The Back to the Future car will no longer remain an age-old gas car because who doesn’t like seeing a revival of such a masterpiece?
It surely was ahead of its time, but because of its gas engine, it couldn’t stay relevant by some modern standards.
Well, no more of that.

Electrifying the DeLorean DMC-12

UK-based Electrogenic launched a plug-and-play or drop-in kit that converts any DeLorean DMC-12 into an all-electric model.
You would be ditching the stock V6 powertrain for an electric setup.
The entire kit is quite easy to install — meaning you won’t have to change the insides of any DMC-12.
It’s based on Electrogenic’s proprietary electric powertrain, which we have seen before.
Where, you ask?
The company once converted a 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom II into an EV, and its owner is Jason Momoa.

It seems like Aquaman himself approves of this tech.
Further, the new electrified DMC-12 includes a 43 kWh battery which replaces the existing fuel tank.
A single electric motor powers the rear axle, and it’s safe to say that it’s a worthy performance upgrade.
Sure, you won’t get any of the good ol’ V6 sound, but how about more horses instead?
Massive performance upgrades

The ‘new and improved’ electric powertrain produces 215 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque, which might not seem much.
However, compared to the stock numbers — 130 horsepower and 153 lb-ft of torque — that’s a sizeable upgrade.
It also massively increases the acceleration.
The original setup would take over 10 seconds for a 0-60 mph start, but the new all-electric version can pull that off in less than 5 seconds.

You get a ‘real-world’ range of 150 miles, and it charges in under an hour using CCS rapid charging.
It certainly changes the cruiser, changing it into a performance sports car worthy of competing with others in the category.
In addition, the best part about this entire experience is that the conversion is completely reversible.
If for some reason you don’t like driving an electric DeLorean DMC-12, you can change it back to a gas car.
