Thousands of cars discovered in the woods in East Tennessee

A man found a huge collection of vehicles, including plenty of muscle cars, parked up in the woods near a mountain in East Tennessee. 

The junkyard is far from the beaten track and is probably the last place you’d expect to find a bunch of muscle cars. 

Most of the motors have seen better ways – spending decades exposed to the elements hasn’t done them any favors. 

However, there are some real hidden gems parked up at the spot with cars dating from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.

The old junkyard opened up in the 1970s

Stumbling upon any abandoned classic car is a pretty neat thing, but to find a whole collection is more exciting – such as this guy who found one of the finest collections ever out in Tacoma, Washington, or the urban explorer who discovered several rare vehicles ‘worth millions’. 

In a similar exciting haul, YouTuber Hot Rod Hoarder found the Tellico Mountain Motors junkyard in East Tennessee. 

Tellico Mountain Motors opened its doors back in 1972 and grew for several years until the mid-1990s when the owner decided to put his efforts into a towing service and the junkyard took a back seat. 

Since then, Tellico Mountain Motors only opens up for a few hours on selected Saturdays. 

Nature has really taken over at the junkyard, and you’d need to grab a line trimmer or chainsaw to even get up close to some of the vehicles.

The woods are a real treasure trove of muscle cars and more

But the area isn’t short on cars, in fact, Hot Rod Hoarder didn’t even manage to get it around it all in one single trip. 

On his first visit to Tellico Mountain Motors, discovered a very early model Plymouth Barracuda, that was looking pretty sorry for itself; a 1965 Mercury Comet drag car; a 1967 Camaro; and a 1962 Ford Sunliner. 

There were also plenty of muscle cars, including Chevelles, Novas, Torinos, and a Ford Mustang. 

Some of the cars were essentially reduced to parts, but others appeared more or less complete and in good shape considering their decades out in the woods. 

All in all, it’s a pretty cool place and a dream for those who are in the market of restoration projects.
