The iPhone 16 has a brand-new ‘game-changing’ button that no previous models have had.

Apple launched the iPhone 16 series, which includes the standard iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus, on Monday (9 September).

The tech giant has said the new models are the first built specifically to handle AI – or Apple Intelligence, as the company calls its proprietary artificial intelligence.

However, it seems owners are more impressed by the new ‘Camera Control’ – a physical button on the side of the iPhone that can be used to open and operate the camera.

iPhone 16 Camera Control button has been branded a ‘game-changer’

Prior to its launch, leaked images teased the prospect of a ‘Capture’ button, while there were also rumors Apple was testing a revolutionary new camera

Now, the wait is over and Apple fans are delighed with the inclusion of the new ‘Camera Control’ button.

“Camera Control can quickly launch the camera, take a photo, and start video recording so users don’t miss the moment,” Apple said in release.

“A new camera preview helps users frame the shot and adjust other control options — such as zoom, exposure, or depth of field — to compose a stunning photo or video by sliding their finger on the Camera Control.”

Not only that, but in the coming months Camera Control will be infused with AI, meaning if you take a quick snap of a restaurant, you’ll be able to pull up its menu or ratings; or if you take a photo of a dog at the park, the iPhone 16 will be able to identify the breed.

Smart stuff, right?

But Android fans were quick to chip in

The feature was branded a ‘game changer’ on social media, but Android users were quick to point out that there phones already had a similar feature.

“Been double-clicking for camera for 13 years on Android,” said one person on X. “Welcome to the 2010s.”

“So yall got the same button I have on my Android for the last decade?” A second person asked.

However, Apple says the new addition is the result of ‘thoughtful hardware and software integration’ and that it’s packed with innovation, including a tactile switch that powers the click experience, a high-precision force sensor that enables the light press gesture, and a capacitive sensor that allows for touch interactions’.

Sounds pretty cool.
