Elon Musk plans to unveil its long-awaited Tesla robotaxi on October 10, and here’s all we know about the ‘Cybercab’ ahead of its launch.

Recently, Tesla has shifted its focus from producing electric cars to artificial intelligence and robotics.

The main pillar of this renewed focus is the Tesla Robotaxi, which is set to debut this year.

It seems that the eccentric billionaire wants to remove people from driving on roads entirely.

Tesla Robotaxi

Elon Musk is not planning to rely on a Model 3 sedan or a Model Y SUV for his Tesla robotaxi.

The EV manufacturer is working on a purpose-built, dedicated robotaxi vehicle.

In a recent earnings call, Musk himself referred to the vehicle as a ‘Cybercab‘.

It is highly likely that will be the official name of the vehicle since the last new EV that the company released was also called the Cybertruck.

This service is Tesla’s most ambitious plan so far and completely depends on its Autopilot and Full Self-Driving systems.

However, the use of these technologies depends upon future regulations regarding autonomous driving, too.

Purpose-built robotaxi

Previously, Tesla was trying to build a cheap mass-market vehicle, known as the Model 2.

However, it seems that they have decided to put the Model 2 on the back burner for now and go all-in on the robotaxi.

Elon Musk announced during Tesla’s Q2 2024 earnings call that the reveal of the Robotaxi will be on October 10th.

However, Tesla is quite well known for not exactly adhering to release dates, so we’ll see.

Even if the Tesla robotaxi gets revealed this October, it will still take a while to make it to production.

The Cybertruck also took nearly five years from its reveal to its actual delivery.

Musk has also said Tesla could not start offering rides to customers until Full Self-Driving can be used unsupervised.

Tesla has also said that the ‘timing of Robotaxi deployment depends on technological advancement and regulatory approval.’
