Why the Cybertruck may not actually have been faster than Porsche 911 while towing

Everyone went crazy when they saw footage of a Cybertruck beating a Porsche 911 in a drag race while towing a 911.

However, as it turns out, the footage may have been ‘edited’ and the truth may be a bit different.

Jason Fenske, who runs the Engineering Explained YouTube channel, broke down the reasons why the drag race may be a bit overexaggerated.

For starters, during the launch event Elon Musk said the Cybertruck can beat a Porsche 911 in a quarter mile run but Fenske said we have no evidence this is accurate.

This is because Musk did claim it can beat the 911 in a quarter mile run, but only actually showed footage of an eight mile run.

Fenske explained that this only proves the Cybertruck is faster in the first half of the drag race, but the 911 would potentially beat the Cybertruck in the end.

This is largely due to the fact that, as we all know, EVs are capable of instant torque, so they’re generally faster than en equivalent or even superior gas-powered car off the line.

The second thing Fenske points out is that the Porsche 911 is just the namesake for a large line-up of vehicles.

The current-gen 911, the 992, is available with power outputs ranging from 380 hp to 518 hp, and that’s not including all the special and limited editions.

In other words, Tesla likely used the least powerful 911, putting the least powerful 911 against the range-topping Cybertruck in a quarter mile run that may have been shorter than suggested.

Food for thought, isn’t it.

Mind you, several people will argue that the drag result is still impressive.

For two reasons.

One, it proves the Cybertruck is really fast.

Two, it proves Tesla always know how to put on a good show.
