An ultra-rare one of two 1970 Dodge Coronet RT Convertible was found in a junkyard.
The Dodge Coronet was unveiled all the way back in 1949, with the muscle car versions going into production from 1965 onwards.
Over the years, the Coronet nameplate was used on seven generations and hundreds of thousands were produced over the years.
But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some super rare models out there.

The rare Dodge Coronet was abandoned in a junkyard in the 1970s
For example, the 1966 Dodge Coronet 426 Wedge is the only one in the world.
And this 1970 Dodge Coronet RT Convertible with a 426 Hemi engine is one only two ever made – making a very special car indeed.
However, for reasons unclear, the car had a somewhat short life on the road and was left abandoned at a junkyard in Canada in the 1970s.
Fortunately, the guy who stumbled across the Coronet back then knew about cars and he understood that the R in the car’s VIN denoted that it was fitted with a Hemi – and therefore, worthwhile rescuing.
The stunning Coronet has since ended up with a car collector called Brett Torino, who has a passion for rare motors.
The car underwent a full restoration
A few years back, Torino noticed that the car was making a strange knocking noise – so decided to send it off to the team at Graveyard Carz to be fixed.
But while carrying out the work, the team soon noticed that previous restorations hadn’t been carried out to a very high standard. Ouch.
“It wasn’t that somebody did a bad job, it was that they did all that they could do with what they had when the car was [restored],” Graveyard Carz’s Mark Worman explained.
Fair enough – but it was still far from ideal.
So, with the ‘sins’ now uncovered and laid bare, Worman and the team set about fixing them up and returning the Dodge to its former glory.
Not an easy task when you’re dealing with a car as old and rare as the Coronet RT Convertible but it’s fair to say Graveyard Carz performed nothing short of a miracle and got the car looking just as good as the day it was made.
