This YouTuber came across an abandoned 1963 Plymouth Valiant in the woods which had been left for 41 years – but there was a missing component.

Dylan McCool shared a video of the rescue to his 615k subscribers, in which he explored a wooded area full of deserted vehicles.

Of particular interest was the Valiant which hadn’t seen any road action since 1983.

All things considered, it fared pretty well over the last few decades.

Taking a closer look at the 1963 Plymouth Valiant

Given that the car had spent over 40 years surrounded by trees, the Valiant was holding its own against the surrounding wilderness.

There was a tree growing up beside it, but there was none growing up through it.

Considering that we have see that happen to cars like in this Swedish car graveyard, we’ll count this as a small victory.

There were specks of rust visible, but it was hardly a rust bucket like some other cars that we’ve seen, like this 1961 Chevy Impala.

Getting the car out of the area proved to be quite challenging due to thick vegetation in the surrounding environment.

However, it was the examination of the Valiant’s interior and engine which uncovered the biggest issue.

What was wrong with the engine?

The Valiant’s Slant Six engine was intact, but deeply flawed.

As you might expect from a car that hadn’t been driven since Ronald Reagan was president, there were some issues.

Shrubbery has grown up inside the hood, and the spark plugs were not complying.

With rust present inside the cylinders, it was clear that work would need to be done before this car would ever be fit for purpose again.

In fact, Dylan reckoned it would be easier just to put a new engine in its place.

He said: “I’ve got plenty of Slant Sixes that run, so that’s not a big problem at all.”

Here’s hoping the car will be road-ready in Dylan’s next video.
