A couple named Blaine and Janice stumbled upon a superyacht in Alaska that had been left to rot, hidden under a tarp, and stuck to the seafloor.

This seemed like a dream discovery to the couple at first, but it turned into a major challenge after they realized the true condition of the yacht.

The couple had been searching for a new boat for over a year, and their dream seemed to come true when they found a classic 78-foot yacht.

Their incredible journey was shared on their YouTube channel, Onboard Tangaroa – The Neverending Sea Trial.

Checking out the abandoned superyacht found in Alaska

Blaine and Janice’s love for yachts is nothing new, and they are no strangers to life on the water.

In fact, the couple met 25 years ago while working on superyachts.

After two decades of living on land with their children and dogs, they decided to return to the sea.

That’s what introduced them to this superyacht in Wrangell, Alaska.

However, when they visited the boat, it was nothing like the pictures they had seen, just like this Mercedes-Benz that was also hiding something big.

The yacht, built in 1969, was wet, moldy, and had fallen into serious disrepair.

The tarp covering it was a poor disguise for the peeling paint, rotting decks, and a damp, dull interior.

To their surprise, the yacht’s keys were found in a freezer on deck.

The couple decided to restore the yacht

They spent three days inspecting the boat, wondering if they were up for such a huge project – not too dissimilar to this man who built a yacht from scratch.

Finally, it was time to decide, and Blaine and Janice saw the potential of restoration.

After some negotiation, they made an offer of CA$200,000 – Canadian dollars – knowing the extensive work ahead of them.

But moving back to the seas after the restoration could definitely end up being worth it for the couple.
