Can you imagine a U-Haul truck sitting on top of a building in Tulsa for nearly five decades?

It’s not a joke – it’s been there since 1978, catching the attention of locals and visitors alike.

What makes this story even more fascinating is that the truck was placed there as part of an advertising campaign, and it’s still standing tall today.

But how did it get there, and why is it still around? The tale of this truck on a rooftop in Tusla is a fascinating one.

U-Haul truck hoisted on the top of a Tusla Building

Back in 1978, U-Haul decided to step up their advertising game by placing an actual truck on top of the building at 504 E Archer Street.

While U-Haul had previously mounted trailers on buildings, this was the first time they hoisted an entire truck.

The building, originally built in 1930 for the National Supply Company, became an instant landmark with its new addition.

But the most fascinating thing is that the truck still proudly sits on top to this day.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a bizarre vehicle-mounted display.

Earlier, a real Dodge Viper on a Kentucky dealership billboard drew plenty of attention.

And how can we forget about the luxury home that featured a living room with five classic cars?

It just shows how people can take their passion for vehicles beyond merely driving them.

The truck has been properly maintained

Back to the U-Haul truck in Tusla, it has been maintained properly over the years.

In fact, in 2011, it got a makeover with a fresh orange-and-white U-Haul wrap, making it shine brighter than ever.

Spotlights were also added, grabbing the same attention at night as in the daytime.

Weighting over 8,000 pounds, the truck even required reinforced roofing to keep it secure.

The truck has been a proud symbol for the company for 50 years and will continue to be for years to come.
