This 1969 Camaro lifts off like a plane during high-speed drag race

In a drag race that nearly ended in disaster, this pumped-up 1969 Camaro nearly flew off like a plane.

Wheelies are a staple of American racecars, whether it’s typically zippy coupes or tire-burning muscle cars.

You rarely see a racecar movie without one.

But this time, a 1969 Camaro nearly got it all wrong.

1969 Camaro nearly takes off during wheelie

Drag Racing experts at ProTreeVideos often see extraordinary cars go wheel to wheel in a winner-takes-all quarter mile.

But this 1969 Camaro took a dead start to the next level, bursting off the line and quite literally jetting off into the sunset.

Highlighted on the ProTreeVideos TikTok page, the Camaro hit what seemed to be a typical wheelie, until all four wheels left the ground.

The car left the racetrack for a split second, before it bellyflopped back to the ground safely, carrying on its drive towards the finish line, albeit in a much more stable manner.

Many viewers were blown away – much akin to the car.

However, others mentioned that this was why many cars that were frequent flyers had wheelie bars to ensure they didn’t take off.

Still, there were a lot of amused watchers.

“Now that’s taking catching some air to a whole other level,” one said.

Another added, “That car thought it was an airplane for a second.”

Thankfully, this wheelie was done in a controlled environment, where the car landed back on the ground. It’s not one to try at home.

1969 Camaro cars don’t typically transform into racecars, but rather abandoned vintage restoration projects, making this quite a rarity.

Still, this particular car appears to be a thing of beauty, up there with the ultra-rare blue-and-white variant which sold for 60 times the price it was bought for.
