The Porsche 911 is one of the most iconic cars of all time.
Originally released in 1964, the 911, which is currently in its eighth generation, has become a modern classic of car engineering.
Renowned for its flat-six engine, as well as for its unique, sleek design, the 911 remains one of the best selling sports cars in the world.
Now, one YouTuber has purchased a 911 on the cheap – so what’s the catch?

Porsche passion project: 911 being restored
YouTuber Joe, who runs the channel Shifting Metal bought a 24-year old 996 generation 911 for $9000 dollars at a local auction in England.
The car itself had a few issues, including a lack of coolant, as well as some cosmetic issues with the body.

After giving it a wash and removing the window tints, Joe replaced the alloy wheels to match the car. Replacing the wheels cost over $1000, but at least the wheels now match the original.
Aside from the cosmetic issues, Joe turns his attention to the coolant issues, thinking it could be the expansion tank.

Joe then takes his 996 to a Porsche specialist in Bristol, England for a check to see what the issue is.
Aside from a few minor issues with the suspension, as well as brake juddering and a snapped headlight sensor arm, everything seems fine.
Until it isn’t.
Bore scoring diagnosed in 911
There was bad news – a boroscope revealed cylinder bore scoring within the engine.
Unfortunately, this tends to be extremely expensive – in fact, it will likely require an engine rebuild.
The tapping noise was likely one of the cylinder heads within the engine.
Despite the negativity, Joe is remaining positive and committed to the rebuild – and has even launched merchandise in order to fund the rebuild of his 911.
