Supercar Blondie brings you the cutting edge in cars and automotive tech but Sergi Galiano went back to basics and answered one of the most frequently asked car questions on Google: Why is a car called a car?

Turns out you need to go back – way back to answer this. As Sergi explains: “Car is basically just short for carriage.”

In the past, we used horse-powered carriages and now we have vehicles with engine horsepower – the link is pretty clear.

“You’ll also see the resemblance with ‘cart’, ‘chariot’, or ‘carrus/carrum’ that means ‘wheeled vehicle’ in Latin,” he says. Although our ancestors probably couldn’t have imagined just how far carts and chariots have come.
