Video shows the reality of how fast planes actually fly

With perhaps the exception of the hard acceleration when a plane is taking off, it’s actually quite difficult to tell how fast a plane is going when you’re on it.

However, a video that was uploaded to X by Historic Vids is going viral, precisely because it makes it visually clear just how fast planes can go.

Typical takeoff speeds are in the range of 240 – 300 km/h (149 mph – 186 mph), depending on the type of aircraft that’s being used.

So that means that when the plane’s wheels leave the ground, you’re going faster than the top speed of most cars.

In the air, most commercial passenger aircraft cruise at around 900 km/h or 560 mph.

We can only imagine what a similar video with Concorde would’ve looked like.
