South Korean manufacturer Hyundai is poised to buy tens of thousands of highly advanced robots.
The move comes as it wants to deepen its partnership with American technology company Boston Dynamics, Inc.
It isn’t a move you would typically expect an automotive manufacturer to make, but Hyundai has its reasons for doing so.
The robots will be used across some of the brand’s factories, and assist in the construction of cars as well as help out with maintenance.

The new Atlas robots are to be used in factories
The robot that the company is buying from Boston Dynamics is called Atlas.
The plan is for the Atlas robots to be deployed across various factories in inspection and predictive maintenance roles.
As well as the robots, Hyundai will use what it calls ‘physical AI’ to hopefully enhance its manufacturing processes further.
Atlas was launched in April 2024, and Boston Dynamics won the RBR50 Robotics Innovation Award for its creation.

Boston will also partner with NVIDIA, Google DeepMind, and the Toyota Research Institute to further develop Atlas.
The manufacturer plans to buy tens of thousands of robots to work at its plants.
Hyundai is investing billions in the United States
The car manufacturer isn’t just spending its money on robots.
Hyundai is planning on investing a massive amount of money into the United States market.
It will invest $21 billion into the USA, with $6 billion of that hopefully driving more innovation and partnerships with American companies.
The company is proving itself to be one of the best car manufacturers in the world right now.

The key to this has been its range of EVs, with the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 winning multiple awards.
The Ioniq 5 wowed us with its big, boxy, and retro design with hints of Lancia to it.
The Ioniq 6 was a big change with a streamlined look, but it, too, stood out from the crowd.
Who knows what Hyundai will get up to next after its big robot investment?
