This is the BYD YangWang U9, a ‘dancing supercar’ built by Tesla’s biggest rival.

Not only is it fast as heck, it can literally dance and jump.

But there’s a very important technical reason behind this seemingly Easter egg-ish feature.

BYD, lest we forget, is the brand that managed to beat Elon Musk and Tesla in the EV market.

And that means they’ve got a few coins to spend.

This probably explains why the headline act of the BYD YangWang U9 dancing supercar is the fact it can literally dance.

This was probably loosely inspired by Tesla Celebration Mode, except this is a lot more complex and possibly even wilder.

The U9 is powered by four BYD electric motors, each developing 322 horsepower for a grand total of 1,287 horsepower.

More to the point, it delivers a whopping 1,680 Nm (1,239 lb-ft) of torque, giving the car a 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) time of just 2 seconds.

BYD designed a bespoke chassis that allows it to jump and dance, but it also allows the supercar to corner faster and brake harder when needed.

The bad news, because there’s got to be some, is the car is very heavy.

It weighs a hair under 2.5 ton, which is basically like two Porsche 911s.

The battery pack alone weighs nearly the same as a first-gen Smart car.

Still, at least that translates to a decent range.

The car can go up to 465 km (288 miles) on a charge, which is not bad at all for a supercar of this caliber.

More details regarding its spec, including the price, are expected on February 25, when the car will be fully unveiled to the public in Shenzhen, China.
