Stretching from Muzhapilangad in the Kannur district to Azhiyoor in Kozhikode, India, the Thalassery-Mahe National Highway bypass is a magnificent feat of engineering.
And the 18.6-kilometre (11.6-mile), six-lane bypass received praise from Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra.
The business tycoon expressed his admiration to his massive X following.

“The Thalassery-Mahe bypass. Like a skyscraper lying down flat on its side…,” he began his post to his 11.1 million followers on 11 April.
Saudi Arabia’s The Line City – part of its Neom giga-project – has also been compared to a horizontal skyscraper.
Mahindra continued: “At first it looked like a concrete imposition on the natural landscape.
“But it has its own aesthetic.
“And I can’t deny the temptation to cruise down it and appreciate the beauty on either side,” he enthused.
It turns out scale is what most countries are aspiring to currently, with the Saudi Crown Prince planning to build the world’s tallest skyscraper in Riyadh.
In addition, Dubai’s latest skyscraper is also going for a new world record.
The comments about the Thalassery-Mahe National Highway bypass were just as enthusiastic from Mahindra’s followers.
“This serves as a great example of India’s rising dominance in the infrastructure arena,” said one.
“Absolutely! It’s amazing how infrastructure can sometimes enhance rather than detract from the environment,” said a second.
“Insanely beautiful and fascinating!! Driving on this would be so cool with the scenery,” a third concluded.
The eye-catching stretch of road allows the journey from Muzhapilangad in the Kannur district to Azhiyoor in Kozhikode to be completed in just 14 minutes.
It was previously a 45-minute trek before the bypass was opened by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
The toll rate for light motor vehicles, such as taxis, to use the bypass is Rs. 35 with Fastag, an electronic toll collection system.
