All we know about the Tesla Roadster 2.0
First teased in 2017, the Tesla Roadster 2.0 promised to be a game-changing EV supercar with amazing specs.
Back then, it promised a 0-60mph time of 1.9 seconds and a top speed exceeding 250 mph.
It even boasted a 620-mile range on a single charge.
Initially planned for a 2020 release, the second iteration has faced numerous delays.
However, in a Q2 2024 Earnings Call, Musk told investors that the second-generation Roadster will finally be available from next year.
“We’ve completed most of the engineering,” Musk said.
“I think there are still some upgrades we want to make to it, but we expect to be in production with Roadster next year,” he added.
“It will be something special.”
It seems that since its debut, the Tesla Roadster 2.0 has gone through some design changes.
Elon Musk also claims that it can go 0 to 60mph in under one second.
SpaceX option package
Elon Musk has also claimed that the new Tesla Roadster 2.0 will also have an additional SpaceX option package.
Additionally, the SpaceX model will feature small rocket thrusters and capabilities beyond traditional sports cars.
‘SpaceX option package’ for the new model will include around ten small rocket thrusters arranged seamlessly around the car,” Elon said in a 2018 post.
“These rocket engines dramatically improve acceleration, top speed, braking & cornering. Maybe they will even allow a Tesla to fly…” he added.
Obviously, the billionaire is known for making such wild claims, so take it with a grain of salt.
